SEAT Altea Freetrack
SEAT Altea Freetrack: sporty MPV

Beautiful weekends scupper sailing plans

SEAT Freetrack does the business, but not the wind

I know it seems carpish of me, with such a poor summer. But the last few weekends have really done it for sailing.

My son Matt had two events on successive weekends. Both were wiped out by lack of wind.

That didn’t stop us preparing for last weekend’s event. I picked Matt up from sixth form last Friday afternoon and we went along to Queen Mary SC where we berth the dinghy and its trailer.

I was trying out the SEAT Altea Freetrack. This is a five-seater MPV with all the practical family bits, including a two-tier boot – useful for additional storage. And, for sailing, it has the advantage of a four-wheel drive system.

But, and this is the big but, under the bonnet is a fire-breathing GTI engine of 200PS.

It goes like a rocket! It’s just so much fun disguised as an MPV – a sporty looking one, I give you that. The other really impressive thing is the value for money.

Apart from its engine and four-wheel drive, there’s 17-inch alloys, climate control, all-round electric windows, rear parking sensors, and a roof-mounted DVD player in the rear. All this for £20K! Spectacular.

If SEAT has been off your radar -and I must admit this Altea Freetrack had completely passed me by -check them out. You could end up with more car for your money than you bargained for!
