BMW has introduced a new, business-friendly diesel option for the recently-revised 5-Series.
The 518d uses a less powerful EU6-compliant 143PS version of BMW’s 2.0-litre diesel engine, and thanks to CO2 emissions as low as 119g/km on the saloon, the new arrival enjoys a company car tax rate of 18 per cent.
On the other hand, with 360 Nm of torque, the 518d still offers a decent turn of speed; the saloon can get to 62mph from rest in 9.7 seconds, while the Touring estate does it in 10.1 seconds. The saloon achieves a combined fuel consumption of 62.8 mpg, the Touring 58.9 mpg.
Standard equipment includes a Business Navigation system, Xenon headlights, BMW Emergency Call and Teleservices. Prices for the BMW 518d saloon start at £29,830, while the 518d Touring starts at £32,155.
The 518d joins the BMW 5-Series range just as BMW retires a similarly economical favourite of company car drivers, the 520d EfficientDynamics – read more here.
