Ford C-MAX 1.6 Duratec Titanium Ecoboost 150PS
What is it?
GOOD-LOOKING replacement for Ford’s Focus-based people carrier. The new C-MAX range is split into two models – the five-seater version tested here and the seven-seater Grand C-MAX (see our test of the Grand C-MAX). Based on the new third-generation Focus platform, it also comes with a new range of diesel and EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engines. This five-seater is priced from £16,745 in entry-level 105PS 1.6-litre petrol spec, but we’ve driven the 150PS 1.6 EcoBoost Titanium model, priced at £19,745.
What’s hot?
- The way it looks. Sharp angles, neat lights front and rear…
- …plus taut proportions result in a very attractive shape
- Lots of space inside, two outer chairs slide back and forth…
- …while centre seat folds away to give luxurious 2+2 layout
- All seats fold flat quickly and simply
- Centre console is modelled on a mobile phone, looks great
- Cabin material quality is as good as Audi or BMW
- New engine has lots of punch and a diesel-like delivery too…
- …with 240Nm of torque from just 1,600rpm
- Returns 42.8mpg and emits 154g/km, too
- Wider tracks, uprated suspension mounts and fluid electric power steering
- …combine to offer sporty handling
- New torque vectoring ensures stability and agility
- Options include automatic parking, blind spot monitoring, power tailgate
- Standard kit includes Bluetooth, alloys, piano black Sony audio system
What’s not?
- Not much really…although the engine is a little harsh at high revs
- And with desirable options, the price tag will be high
