WELL this looks a lot of fun.
Mercedes has announced the initial details of its forthcoming Mercedes GLE model, a sporty SUV coupé in the mould of BMW’s X6, and a likely competitor for Land Rover’s Range Rover Sport.
The BMW X6 met with a lukewarm response from motoring journalists when it was first introduced
but became a big hit with the buyers, which means this is an area of the market Mercedes can no longer afford to ignore.

The Mercedes GLE will be offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines and the range will be headed by a sporty GLE 450 AMG model, which uses a 3-litre petrol V6 engine to produce 367 PS, thanks to turbocharging. On this model, 60 per cent of the power is sent to the rear wheels to provide a sportier feel; other models in the range have a 50:50 front:rear split.
These comprise the diesel-powered GLE 350 d 4MATIC and petrol-engined GLE 400 4MATIC, which produce 258 and 333 horsepower respectively.
All Mercedes GLE models are Euro 6 compliant.
UK pricing and specification for the GLE Coupé will be confirmed later.
