THE all-new Volkswagen Golf will redefine quality and comfort for compact hatchbacks.

That’s Volkswagen’s promise for the new Golf Mk6.

The new VW Golf goes on sale in the UK in January 2009.

A new 108bhp 2.0 TDi turbodiesel will be the pick of the line-up for many business drivers. It emits 119g/km of CO2. That means 13% benefit in kind tax. Economy is 62.7mpg. Other diesel engines are tuned for 89bhp, 138bhp, 168bhp. The new VW Golf diesels are available with six-speed manual or the fast-acting twin-clutch DSG transmissions.

Many of the new petrol Golfs use fuel-efficient TSi technology.

The new VW Golf petrol line-up includes 79bhp, 101bhp, 120bhp and 158bhp variants.

The new VW Golf Mk6 will be the quietest, safest, most technically advanced Golf yet, says Volkswagen. The all-new VW Golf will be offered with:

  • Adaptive Chassis Control
  • Automatic Distance Control
  • Sophisticated acoustic damping
  • Seven airbags as standard, including one for the driver’s knees
  • New anti-whiplash head restraint system
  • New, more advanced ESP stability control

Exterior styling echoes the new VW Scirocco.

Inside, the new Golf uses materials and equipment commonly associated with larger premium cars, says VW.

Prices and trim levels for VW Golf Mk6 have yet to be announced.
