Tangible proof that a soft-top can also make a sensible business car

Business Car Manager Verdict

It’s a class act, this new shape A3 Cabriolet, a car that looks and feels the quality item that Audi make it out to be.

They’ve squeezed a bit more space than the earlier model, but the boot still has to make way for the roof

If you are looking for a modern day version of the famed A4 Cabrio, this pretty much is it.

It has the style and stance but with latest generation engines, safety and running gear underneath, it’s a step up technically and of course, cheaper and more efficient to run (business users take note).

We’d say the A3 Cabriolet acquits itself particularly well as a silky all rounder in this 1.4 petrol Sport spec (it’s extraordinarily refined) although whether it’s ultimately as much fun to drive as the BMW 118i SE, one key rival it’s been exhaustively benchmarked against, is up for debate.

Perhaps those rear seats in the Audi are also a touch marginal – for adults – travelling over any kind of long distance.

True, there are more affordable open top options around, but in the compact premium set, this polished Audi A3 Cabriolet is well on the pace and  that would seem to go for the all-important running costs (economy/running costs/company car tax and so on) , too.

Forecast is for 70% of sales to be retail, so if you’re in the estimated 30% that will be headed for small fleet business, bear this in mind: this could be the makings of a beautiful top down summer.
