What’s hot?
- The A4 Ultra’s focus might be on economy, but this green A4 feels surprisingly lively for a green model. This version of the 2.0-litre TDi feels torquey in the lower rev-range and is free revving. The standard six-speed manual transmission is slick too. Acceleration to 62mph takes just 8.3 seconds and the top speed is an impressive 140mph.
- This is still a frugal car despite the performance, with impressive 67.3mpg fuel economy and 109g/km Co2 emissions.
- The low C02 emissions will mean the A4 Ultra falls into the 16% company car tax band for 2014/15.
- Only available in two-wheel drive, the Ultra version feels like any other A4 on the road – think generally comfortable and refined.
- There’s the expected sturdy, well-made and high-quality Audi feel to the upholstery and interior trim.
What’s not?
- This version of the 2.0-litre TDi diesel might feel quick, but it’s quite noisy when accelerating.
- The A4 Ultra is only available with lowered, sports suspension, which can make for an uncomfortable drive.
- It might feel fast, but unlike its BMW 3-Series rival, the A4 is no drivers car.
- At £28,325, this A4 might be super frugal, but it’s still expensive to buy.
- There’s a new A4 on the horizon and although beautifully made, the current car feels a bit dated, both inside and out when compared to rivals such as the latest Mercedes C-Class.
