Audi launches its MINI rival

BUSINESS car drivers wanting something stylish and image-led will have greater choice beyond the MINI and the Fiat 500 – Audi is entering the scene with its all-new A1 hatchback.

The new three-door Audi A1 will sit below the Audi A3 in Audi’s range.

Although the A1 will be the smallest Audi in the range, the newcomer will feel every inch an Audi. There will be standard alloy wheels, air conditioning, electric front windows and mirrors, remote central locking, a single CD audio system and split folding rear seats. Plus a host of personalisation packages.

The A1 will be priced from about L13,000.

The Audi A1, which measures 3950mm in length (Audi A3 is 4238mm), will be available in SE, Sport and S line trim.

These include customisation options for both exterior and interior using an array of colours, materials and equipment options designed to individualise each car – including the contrasting roof and roof pillars in the car pictured here.

There will be three engines at launch: a 1.2 TFSI petrol (86PS, 160Nm, 55.4mpg, CO2 119g/km); a 1.4 TFSI petrol (122PS, 200Nm, 55.4mpg, CO2 119g/km), with the option of S tronic auto; and a 1.6 TDI diesel (105PS, 250Nm, 72.4mpg, CO2 102g/km).

All the engines qualify for the lowest benefit-in-kind company car tax band (10% for the petrol models; 13% for the diesel). The Audi A1 1.4 TDI will also qualify for 100% first year writing down allowances.

The new Audi A1 will be shown publicly at the Geneva Motor Show (March). It will be available to order from Audi Centres in May before going on sale around October.

Prices are expected to start from L13,000.
