AUDI’S latest new model line, the A1 – a three-door hatchback to rival BMW’s MINI – goes on sale with on the road prices ranging between £13,145 to £18,280.
The Audi A1 can be ordered now for delivery in late 2010.
Audi says that despite being the smallest car in its range, the car has a high level of premium features or technology as standard equipment.
There will be SE, Sport and S line variants.
Standard equipment includes: alloy wheels; remote central locking; air conditioning; electric front windows and mirrors; and CD audio with auxiliary iPod connection linked to a 6.5-inch retractable display.
So how does the new Audi A1 square up to the MINI on price?
The Audi A1 1.2 TFSI SE has a list price of £12,510; the MINI One a list price of £12,620 – although there is a cheaper First option available.
The Audi A1 1.6 TDI Sport is slightly more expensive than the MINI Cooper D (£15,160), though, with a list price of £15,980.
However, at the sportier end, the MINI Cooper holds the aces with a list price of £13,980, whereas the A1 1.4 TFSI S line model costs £16,225.
The Audi A1 engine range includes two petrol units and one diesel.
- 1.2 TFSI 86PS power, 160Nm torque, 118g/km CO2
- 1.4 TFSI 122PS power, 200Nm torque, 119g/km CO2
- 1.6 TDI 105PS power, 250Nm torque, 105g/km CO2
All three engine choices qualify for the current sub-120g/km 10% company car tax rate (13% for the diesel), while the A1 1.6 TDI qualifies for 100% first year writing down allowances, too.
Audi’s S tronic twin clutch semi auto is available on the 1.4 TFSI model.
