BMW has been named Industry Supplier of the Year by the Energy Saving Trust.

The Energy Saving Trust’s third annual Green Fleet Heroes awards recognises CO2 reduction programmes.

The Energy Saving Trust said that features such as BMW’s auto stop-start technology had helped significantly reduce CO2.

Last year BMW’s range of cars produced an average 182.3g/km CO2. Within a year EfficientDynamics had reduced this 161.6g/km, yet without ruining the driving qualities for which the brand has become synonymous.

The auto stop-start system cuts the engine when the vehicle is stationary and in neutral – for example at traffic lights. The moment the clutch is depressed, the engine automatically re-engages.

The Best Small Fleet award was presented to stationery company Commercial Group. The company uses 12 Ford Transit vans for delivering orders.

Commercial Group had reduced its delivery mileage by 89,000 miles and removed the need for two van routes. Tracking software had made the company’s vehicle management more efficient.
