The new Discovery Sport replaces the Land Rover Freelander, which ceased production last month.
But while the Freelander has been very successful for JLR the majority of sales were to private buyers.
The Discovery Sport, however, is aimed at both private and business car buyers.
The Sport, from £32,395, will initially have the 190ps, 2.2-litre SD4 engine but later next year there will be a fuel saving eD4 two-wheel drive version available which is expected to attract the attention of company car drivers thanks to its CO2 emissions of just 119g/km – placing it in the 21% company car tax band for 2015/16 (see our Company Car Tax Tables for more).
The front-wheel drive model will have a sub-£30,000 price tag.
