What is it?

New entry-level supermini gets facelifted look with a fresh chrome grille along with some new upholstery inside. Otherwise the same as before – but by no means the worse for that. Power comes from a 68bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine. Prices start from just over £8000.

What’s hot?

  • Cheeky looks. Big lights and smiley face enhanced by new grille
  • Stylish cabin gets better materials
  • Throaty three-cylinder engine sounds great…
  • …and provides nippy performance in town
  • Low running costs: 62.8mpg combined and 106g/km of CO2
  • Light but precise steering and a decent ride

What’s not?

  • A likeable city car but not as desirable as Fiat 500
  • Runs out of puff a bit on the motorway
  • Could be more fun to drive
  • Getting on a bit now
  • Toyota Aygo sister model might be a better residual bet

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

The C1 has always been a great little urban runabout and this revised version sticks to the same formula – it just looks a little bit more classy inside and out. It may not be as stylish as a Fiat 500, but it costs pennies to run and is well worth a look. And don’t forget, if your business purchases it, the C1 qualifies for a 100% first year writing down allowance on your corporation tax.
