Citroen C3 Picasso road test report

Citroen C3 Picasso 1.6HDI 90hp VTR+

Citroen C3 Picasso 1.6HDI 90hp VTR+

What is it?

Perhaps the ultimate car for our times. The dinky C3 Picasso is Citroen’s take on the downsized MPV, being about as long as a Fiesta but with more space than a Focus. Wide range of petrol and diesel engines.

What’s hot?

  • The fact that it’s amazingly practical and good-looking too…
  • …with a distinctive cube shape, chunky arches and smart lights
  • Rear bench slides back and forth so there’s loads of legroom
  • All the seats fold flat, and the boot has a twin-height floor
  • Cabin design is smart and modern
  • Well-equipped with all models getting air-con
  • Comfortable ride and excellent high-speed refinement
  • CO2 emissions of just 115g/km and 64.2mpg

What’s not?

  • Not exactly fast, even in 90hp 1.6 HDI diesel form…
  • …with 0-60mph in 10.8 seconds
  • Awful PSA five-speed manual box as notchy as ever
  • Below eye level, cabin quality is patchy
  • Not much fun to drive either with vague steering
  • Top spec Exclusive model costs over £15,500

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

Welcome to the best supermini MPV in its class. The Citroen C3 Picasso may not be a go-kart to drive, but that’s not the point. It’s comfortable, quiet, brilliantly flexible and genuinely good looking. Factor in low running costs and you’ve got a winner.
