CITROEN will launch its DS3 model at the Frankfurt Motor Show (September).

The new three-door hatchback will then go on sale in the UK early in 2010.

With its ‘floating’ roof, three-door style and wheel at each corner stance, the DS3 looks every inch a rival to the MINI Cooper.

So far the model has only been shown as the DS Inside – a concept car. It was first displayed at March’s Geneva show – behind closed doors with limited access. So few had the chance to see the car.

However, the Citroen DS Inside has now been shown in the UK during a press event.

Citroen insiders say the DS (for Different Spirit) concept car will change little in appearance when the production ready car appears.

The DS will run alongside the new Citroen C3 hatchback – also to be unveiled at Frankfurt. However, while engines may be shared, DS3 will have a sportier ride compared to the standard C3. Also key to DS will be the extent of personal customisation available.

The Citroen DS3 will be launched in 2010. The car will then be followed successively by the DS4 and DS5 in 2011.

Citroen says these models will be positioned as premium cars in, respectively, the small, medium and large car segments.
