Mercedes SLK road test report

Mercedes SLK 2dr roadster

Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 Roadster

What is it?

It may not stop traffic in the way its predecessor did, but the SLK is still a smart piece of design. The folding roof mechanism remains mesmerising no matter how many times you watch it, while the nicely balanced chassis and wide engine range makes it more than a one trick pony.

What’s hot?

  • Folding roof mechanism
  • Great driving position
  • AirScarf vent system in seatbacks
  • High-speed stability

What’s not?

  • Limited boot space with roof folded
  • Some interior plastics feel cheap
  • Entry-level 2.0-litre engine struggles
  • Brakes could do with more feel

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

The popularity of the original may have removed the wow-factor, but the SLK remains a clever and classy roadster.
