Clean i-DTEC diesels power new Accord

Honda’s new Accord model, due out next year, will be powered by a new clean diesel engine.

The engine – called i-DTEC – is a high power, but low emission version of the current 2.2-litre engine.

The new i-DTEC engine currently meets Euro V emission legislation.

Honda says the new engine is 80% cleaner than the existing engine. But power has been increased from the current 140PS.

A concept version of the Honda Accord Tourer was shown at the recent Frankfurt Show (pictured). It featured sleeker proportions but greater width for a more spacious cabin.

The production version of the new Accord will go on sale mid-2008. As well as the new clean diesel, there will be two petrol engines of 2.0 and 2.4-litre capacities. Both will have more power and improved fuel consumption compared to the current engines.
