Fiat 500x

What’s not?

  • Our Pop Star spec review car was fitted with modest 16-inch alloy wheels, but the ride is still too firm and verges on the uncomfortable when going over speed humps for example.
  • The 500x generally drives well, but the dead feel to the precise power steering spoils the fun.
  • The 500x’s quirky shape may look the part, but that curvy shape means space for the tall in the back of the 500x is tight and the boot has just 355 litres, less than rivals like the popular Renault Captur, and even with the seats folded this equals just 1,000 litres.
  • 500 fans might be disappointed with the interior styling on the 500x; we think the 500x’s dashboard design doesn’t look as chic and on our test car was trimmed in low-rent feeling matt trim. The part analogue, part LCD instruments are also hard to read at a glance.
  • The 500x is expensive, with our mid-range Pop Star trim test car costing £20,095. We’re not sure the quality and driving experience are in keeping with what is a high price compared with the opposition.

Verdict on the Fiat 500x 1.6 Multijet 120 Pop Star

The good news for Fiat 500 fans who are looking for a spacious and practical SUV is that a lot of the original supermini’s chic has been carried over.

However beware, as this Fiat is strongly priced and the ride verges on the uncomfortable on this diesel version.

Still, with its 109g/km CO2 figure, 19% company car tax band and 68.9 mpg fuel figure, the 500x could still make real sense for business buyers who want suburban SUV chic.
