Fiat Fiorino
Fiat Fiorino: capable and cute

Fiat Fiorino road test Review: Mark Bursa

Fiat Fiorino Cargo SX 1.3 Multijet Diesel 75

What is it?

New-style city van, with ultra-low emissions and excellent fuel economy. It’s the third van to be built as a joint venture between Peugeot-Citroen and Fiat – so it’s almost identical to the Peugeot Bipper and Citroen Nemo. More sensible name than the Peugeot!

What’s hot?

  • Fiorino is based on the platform of the Fiat Grande Punto…
  • …so its overall footprint is hatchback-sized
  • Van body is deceptively big – in fact overall length is less than a Fiesta
  • Payload of 610kg, loadfloor length of 1.52m and volume of 2.5cu m…
  • …so it’s more than usable for delivery work
  • A 1,000mm x 1,200mm ISO pallet to be carried
  • A Fiorino could replace a larger van for everyday use
  • Fiat Grand Punto platform means excellent handling
  • CO2 emissions are a tax-friendly 119g/km on the 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel
  • Fiorino has slightly more power than its Peugeot and Citroen sisters
  • Cab is car-like and comfortable, with excellent headroom
  • Fold-down front passenger seat ups load volume to 2.8cm
  • Flip-up clipboard on the top of the dashboard
  • Good range of factory options includes sliding doors on both sides
  • Optional Comfort Matic clutchless manual transmission for city driving…
  • …without compromising Fiorino’s excellent fuel economy

What’s not?

  • Side door apertures are smaller than they look
  • Bulkhead and rear wheel arches intrude into the space…
  • … so the only way to load bulky items is through the back door

Business Van Manager Road Test Rating

Car-derived vans used to comprise a box body welded to the front of a popular hatchback – but that’s sooo 20th century. Fiorino puts a clever, small panel van body on to a hatchback platform to combine car-like driveability with van practicality. Factor in a clean (sub-120g CO2), economical diesel engine and cheeky good looks and you’ve got a winning combination. Plus, because Peugeot’s Bipper and Citroen’s Nemo are the same van (though Fiorino has a Fiat engine) – it’s worth shopping around for a good deal.
