Ford wins green award for economical van range

FORD beat Citroen and Volkswagen to take the Innovation in Car and Van Manufacture Award at the Energy Saving Trust Fleet Hero awards.

The annual awards recognise the commitment and achievements of companies that have reduced carbon emissions from business travel. Transport Minister, Sadiq Khan, said: “It is imperative that we remain dedicated to reducing carbon emissions in the transport sector if we are to meet the environmental challenges we face. Because of its size and influence, the business fleet sector has a major role to play in making transport greener.”

The Fleet Hero judges recognised the impact Ford’s fuel saving technologies had played, both for the company’s low-carbon ECOnetic diesel vehicles and EcoBoost petrol range, which is due to debut in 2010.

Ford has recently introduced a low-emission and economical ECOnetic version of its Transit vans with nearly 40mpg capability. A Transit Connect ECOnetic version will also follow.

Kevin Griffin, Ford’s fleet director, on receiving the award said: “Ford’s latest economical car and commercial vehicle range offers unique choice and value to our fleet customers. From the compact Ford Ka to long wheelbase high roof Transit – all come with potent green credentials. Ford’s broad range multiplied by huge sales volumes make us a fleet hero for businesses across the UK.”

Philip Sellwood, Energy Saving Trust chief executive, added: “The Fleet Hero Awards highlight those who have not only taken steps to help the environment, but also to save money and resources. This is a great example for others to follow.”
