Ford EcoSport car review – compact SUV for the price of a family hatch

Here’s Ford’s answer to cars like the Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Mokka. Small hatch company car costs with SUV space and practicality. Those with young families should pay attention.

The Ford EcoSport is good to drive, has all the practical virtues of a compact SUV, and the running costs of a family hatch

Business Car Manager Verdict

The EcoSport sees Ford playing catch-up in the booming small SUV market and when it arrives in May no doubt it’ll soon become a player.

Good to drive, compact and easy to use and with expected low running costs, the keenly priced Ford EcoSport makes a decent case for itself.

There’s a good mix of space and practicality and that funky SUV image to the fore although some aspects of the design, like that heavy tailgate with big spare wheel are proving controversial. With this 1.5 diesel, you might also want an auto box and maybe 4WD too, but neither is available (so far).

The well-proven Fiesta base and long kit list are pluses, as is Ford’s extensive sales/service back up. So for the business user, the Ford EcoSport certainly stacks up although the vast majority of buyers in this B-Segment are set to be retail. Company car sales are expected to account for just 10% of the total.

The EcoSport, which comes in below the Kuga in Ford’s SUV line-up, will face tough competition in the class but is a car that will stand out, that’s for sure.
