Business Car Manager road test verdict
The footprint of the1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is no bigger than an A4 sheet of paper. And it only has three cylinders. And it’s petrol. And it’s the least powerful EcoBoost unit. Put all that together in a Grand C-MAX and it’s a bit like David heaving along Goliath.
Yet such is the brilliance of this engine, that it works. And works very well in a highly practical, spacious and well thought out package.
There are drawbacks: the EcoBoost petrol engine in the Ford Grand C-MAX won’t give you the same consistency of fuel returns as a diesel.
But it will deliver greater driving pleasure and driving smoothness, topped off by the fact that it is the most CO2 efficient in the range.
If you’re a company car driver needing the practicality of an (occasional) seven seater, then the David of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost Grand C-MAX also fells the Goliath like spectre of large company car tax bills.
Job done.
