What’s not?
- There’s no doubting the quality of the new Mondeo’s interior, although it doesn’t feel a massive step up from the old model. I’d also question the execution when compared to the classy feel of the all-new Volkswagen Passat interior I drove last week.
- The centre console is dominated by the Sync 2 touchscreen multimedia system, which controls most of the important functions on the car. The way it’s fitted looks a bit aftermarket to me, the touchscreen seemed slow to respond too.
- Interesting part analogue, part LCD instruments fitted as standard on Titanium models are hard to read at a glance in my opinion.
- Three-spoke leather-trimmed steering wheel is nice to hold; shame its buttons are small and poorly marked.
Verdict
As expected, this Mondeo in Titanium trim, as a business car package is very close to the all-new Volkswagen Passat in SE Business form.
So why go for the Ford?
There’s not much between them performance-wise, as both have 148bhp, however the Volkswagen has the cleaner engine with 107g/km Co2 figures (117g/km Mondeo) equalling a slightly lower 17% Company Car Tax band (19% Mondeo).
However, if you value the driving experience, here is where the Ford scores. With its sharper steering and body control, plus the Mondeo is more of an entertainer to drive.
The Titanium trim is also a high-value package, with all the kit a business driver is ever likely to need with standard equipment including a DAB navigation system and 17-inch alloy wheels.
