Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 140PS Titanium X Business Edition: lots of good company car specification...but without a large company car tax bill

Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 140PS Titanium X Business Edition on 16 inch alloys
Choice of alloys. You can, as a no cost option, choose 16 inch alloys (pictured) for a softer ride, rather than the Ford Mondeo Titanium X Business Edition’s standard 17 inch alloys

What’s not?

  • The ride is on the firm side – it’s supple enough but it doesn’t deal with bumps and ruts with the sort of disdain that it really should
  • It’s a big car and wide, so it can be a bit daunting if you’re used to something more compact
  • It’s also high-sided, so shorter drivers will need the seat height adjusted to its uppermost point – and even then you’ll thank the fact that you have the parking sensors
  • No stop/start to reduce emissions further and improve fuel consumption

Business Car Manager road test verdict

For almost the same money as a diesel VW Golf 1.6 Golf SE you get yourself a full sized traditional company car that’s loaded with specification and looks good on the road.

The Mondeo might be approaching the end of its life – we’ll have to wait until the end of 2014 for the all-new replacement – but in so many ways the Ford Mondeo Titanium X Business Edition feels contemporary and very satisfying to drive.

So if you want a great company car with plenty of specification and low company car tax, then you won’t feel shortchanged by the new Ford Mondeo Titanium X Business Edition.

Leave that feeling to the taxman instead!
