FORD is upgrading its diesel engine line up in the Ford Mondeo range.
The immediate benefit for all business car drivers is emissions below 140g/km and reduced benefit-in-kind company car tax.
Ford has introduced significant CO2 reducing changes to its range of 2.0-litre TDCi engines in the Mondeo. It means that company car drivers will pay company car tax of just 19% on any Mondeo 2.0 TDCi they choose
In fact, Ford has dropped its previous low emission ECOnetic model -which enjoyed 139g/km CO2 emissions – since all new 2.0 TDCi diesel engines now meet that figure.
It means that company car drivers will be charged benefit-in-kind tax of just 19% in 2010/11.
There are three power outputs to choose from in the updated Ford Mondeo range: 115PS; 140PS; and 163PS. All produce CO2 emissions of 139g/km. Fuel consumption is 53.2mpg.
All new Ford Mondeo TDCi models are equipped with six-speed manual transmission while 140PS and 163PS output TDCi models are available with an optional smooth-changing Ford PowerShift six-speed, double- clutch transmission.
In addition to the upgraded TDCi engines, Ford is introducing a new 203PS 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine.
The engine has already been introduced in the new S-MAX and Galaxy and while its immediate relevance to businesses and company car drivers is marginal – CO2 emissions are 179g/km, beyond all key tax breaks – we’ll be seeing more of EcoBoost petrol engine technology from Ford in the future, especially with smaller capacity petrol engines.
The fast-shifting PowerShift auto gearbox is standard on the EcoBoost model.
