Golf quality repackaged with £10k price tag

VOLKSWAGEN’S all-new supermini Polo goes on sale October 16 with prices from L10,035 for the S 1.2-litre 60 PS five-door model.

The new Polo – a shrunken Golf in many respects – includes standard anti-skid Electronic Stabilisation Program across the range. VW promises Golf-style levels of refinement and comfort for the new Polo, the fifth generation Polo in 34 years.

The new VW Polo range has a choice of five engines: three petrol; two diesel. These Euro V emissions compliant engines are:

  • 1.2-litre 60PS;
  • 1.2-litre 70PS;
  • 1.4-litre 85PS;
  • 1.6-litre TDI 75PS;
  • 1.6-litre TDI 90PS;
  • and, from 2010, a 1.2-litre 105PS turbocharged TSI unit.

The common rail TDI diesel engines qualify for the 13% company car tax band with sub-120g/km CO2 emissions. The petrol engines for the 18% company car tax banding.

The latest Polo will feature four different trim levels. An ‘A/C’ version provides climate control. The new range is: S, Moda, SE, and SEL.

Sporting hatch GTI along with low emission BlueMotion models will follow later in 2010.
