What’s not?

  • Yes, the 1.7-litre diesel is refined, but when you hit the open road you’ll be wishing the refinement was matched with power. You need to work this diesel engine and its six-speed manual gearbox hard to get all 139bhp out of it!
  • The i40’s boot is a decent size, but the odd shape opening hinders its practicality
  • Business users would probably be better choosing the new DCT automatic transmission – a highly decent rival to the lauded Volkswagen DSG unit – as it reduces the CO2 by 30 per cent when compared to the manual.

Verdict on the Hyundai i40 1.7 CRDi SE Nav Saloon review

The Hyundai i40 was the car that moved Hyundai into the business car mainstream and although this Hyundai is no Mondeo or Passat, business drivers looking for a comfortable and spacious car would be well advised to give the facelifted i40 saloon a second look.

As a business user, the i40 is affordable too, with plenty of impressive kit and the back up of Hyundai’s five-year warranty – underpinned by the award-winning Best SME Aftersales Programme for its all-new Fleet Aftersales Charter.
