Hyundai ix20 business car road test report

Hyundai ix20 1.4 CRDi Active

Hyundai ix20 1.4 CRDi Active

What is it?

ALL-NEW mini MPV from Hyundai featuring Hyundai’s new fluidic sculpture design: so there’s a bold hexagonal wire mesh grille, confident lights that reach back along the wings and bonnet of the car and a tapering roofline that gives it a more sporting appearance than boxy rivals such as the Citroen C3 Picasso. Tested here with the diesel engine in mid-range Active trim, priced at £14,095 on the road.

What’s hot?

  • Roomy and highly practical compact MPV
  • Good quality materials used inside the cabin
  • Engine is gutsy with flexible low down response
  • Rear seats fold flat for spacious and practical load area
  • Sliding rear seats increase boot or passenger space
  • While there’s additional storage area below boot floor, too
  • High up seating position gives commanding view
  • Rear passengers get plenty of space and good outlook
  • Fine cabin detailing, such as finger-shaped grips on door pulls…
  • …and the hockey-shaped door latches, or gloss black panel inserts
  • Plus there’s leather steering wheel, alloys, USB and Aux connectivity
  • And there’s 13% company car tax banding
  • ISG stop-start technology boosts economy to over 65mpg
  • Five year unlimited mileage warranty for peace of mind
  • And five years’ roadside assistance and free vehicle health checks, too

What’s not?

  • Tapering rear roofline means restricted over shoulder view
  • And so is rear view through the small letterbox window area
  • Engine noise is gruff and intrusive, particularly low down
  • Gearchange needs to be more precise

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

This is much better from Hyundai. Forget ancient Amicas. This is up-to-date Hyundai, producing attractive designs with quality interiors. It has its flaws – some of the items you interact with are a little clunky (door handle action for example) – but if your business needs a spacious, smart and good value all-rounder, backed up by Hyundai’s legendary warranty, then the ix20 is a great place to start.
