Kia Sorento road test report

Kia Sorento 2.5 CRDi XS auto

Kia Sorento 2.5 CRDi XS auto

What is it?

Bigger brother to Sportage model but with extra four-wheel drive beef. There’s a selectable low ratio box for more demanding off-road conditions. For normal conditions, let the torque on demand four-wheel drive system send the grip to the wheels that need it most.

What’s hot?

  • Smooth auto box
  • Brisk pace from willing diesel engine
  • Quality of interior finish
  • Brilliantly simple and easy to use in-car entertainment system
  • Good level of equipment includes dual zone climate control, leather
  • Commanding view from the driver’s seat

What’s not?

  • Likes to wallow rather than drive round corners
  • Grey leather seats look fake (they’re not)
  • Engine can get a little vocal

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

Lots of four-wheel drive for the money – especially compared to a Freelander – and a very likeable car, too. Excellent if you have some serious towing requirements. But its benefit-in-kind tax is steep compared to the more upmarket Freelander. But Sorento’s monthly contract hire costs will be lower.
