Verdict on the Land Rover Defender 90 Station Wagon XS Spec

The Land Rover Defender is a modern day classic, a model that’s instantly recognised and loved across the world. There is simply nothing else like it.

If the Defender is now feeling its age (the Defender was launched in 1990 as a modern day update of the original 1948 Land Rover), then that’s pretty much inevitable yet it’s still absolutely true to that first working brief: that of a tough, all-terrain 4×4 warrior and Defender fans worldwide wouldn’t have it any other way.

No question, the Defender is wholly traditional in the way it drives, is built and presented (which only adds to its cult status) yet anyone seriously thinking of a Defender as a company car would likely have some special purpose in mind. Farmers, builders, rescue crews and so on typically fit the frame here.

That said, this ‘civilian’ Defender 90 Station Wagon would pass as an entertainingly alternative company car, if you can live with its 28 mpg thirst and quirks. Brimming with character, if not modernity, the Defender legend lives on.
