Latest MINI diesel keeps tax down for company car drivers

HERE’S the chance to have fun and inject some style into your business motoring while saving you and your company stacks of tax money too.

Latest 2011 model year MINI diesels – both One and sporty Cooper – have reduced CO2 emissions at 99g/km, well below the critical 100% writing down allowance barrier.

So what? The current MINI Cooper D is below that tax break, too.

Quite so. But, here’s why it’s important. In 2012/13 tax year the company car tax bands change, increasing the company car driver tax burden for the existing MINI Cooper D. However, not the new 2011 model year car. With emissions at 99g/km, company car drivers will stay taxed at just 13% of the P11D price.

There’s better news yet. The 2011 model year MINI diesels go further on a tank of fuel with even better fuel consumption – 74.3mpg. So fuel duty increases won’t hurt so much, either.

They should be fun to drive, too. The all new diesel engines are 1.6-litre four-cylinder all aluminium units. In the 112hp Cooper D Hatch there’s 0 to 62mph in 9.7 seconds while the 90hp MINI One D Hatch reaches 62mph in 11.4 seconds. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are the same for both cars.

First for MINI: diesel Convertible

At the same time as the 2011 model year MINI One D and MINI Cooper in August, a diesel MINI Cooper D Convertible will also make its debut.

Using the same 112hp engine as the Cooper D, the Convertible accelerates to 62mph in just 10.3 seconds and yet offers 70mpg and emits just 105g/km of CO2.

Similar efficiency values apply to the diesel-engined Clubman range that includes the all new MINI One D Clubman for the first time. The Clubman is also equipped with a new retractable cargo cover in the luggage compartment.

There are a few visual enhancements, too. At the front, there’s a new bumper with a lower air intake which also helps improve pedestrian protection thanks to larger deformation zones and new style fog lamps. On the Cooper S two purposeful air intakes feed the brake discs and enhance the sporting appearance.

The 2011 model year range MINIs go on sale August; prices will be available at a later date, said MINI.
