What is it?
IN a nutshell, this is the facelifted Mazda CX-5 SUV.
The face-lift changes mirror those made to the Mazda6 and include improved standard equipment, revised interior with seven-inch colour touch screen and technology enhanced features, including adaptive LED headlights.
What’s hot?
- The 173bhp 2.2 SKYACTIV diesel is unchanged, but the fastest diesel is still impressive because of the 51.4mpg combined fuel economy and CO2 emissions of just 144 g/km.
- A smooth, refined and willing engine, it is well-matched to the automatic transmission. Acceleration to 62mph takes 9.4 seconds and the top speed is 127mph.
- No sports car to drive, but you’ll still be impressed at how sharp the CX-5 feels on twisty roads. The tall body equals some bodyroll, but there’s plenty of grip and the steering is pleasingly precise.
- Bizzarely, exterior changes including tweaks to the grille, plus LED front and rear lights, are only limited to Sport Nav models like our test car.
- Like the Mazda6, Mazda have worked on the fit and finish for this face-lifted CX-5, to make it more upmarket. We’re not sure the changes are as much of a success compared to the Mazda6, however, the updated model is fitted with the same seven-inch colour screen mounted in the top of the centre console. It controls amongst other things, the sat-nav system.
- There’s plenty of space for four inside the Mazda CX-5, plus a spacious 503 litres of boot space, that can be extended to a massive 1,620 litres with the seat folded.
