MINI Clubman: MINI appeal in a practical package

MINI Clubman Cooper road test report

MINI Clubman Cooper

MINI Cooper Clubman 1.6 + Chili pack

What is it?

The first ever five-door MINI: two at the front; two at the back; one on the side – called Clubdoor. The new Clubman is 24 centimetres longer than the standard MINI. But the Clubman is not a traditional hatch or estate. The twin side-hinged rear doors do hark back to the original Mini Traveller and Countryman. Now they have been very cleverly designed with cut out sections that open around the rear light clusters. The twin rear doors allow easy access to the larger boot. Owners will benefit from the increased luggage area and versatility of the folding rear seats and flat load floor.

What’s hot?

  • MINI’s immense appeal with extra space and additional practicality
  • Excellent build quality
  • None of the MINI’s driving involvement has been lost with extra length
  • Economical to run
  • Extremely good residual values means it won’t lose value too fast

What’s not?

  • Watch the price of those options which easily mount up
  • Clubdoor rear passenger access is from the road
  • Styling not as cute as standard MINI

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

Like all new generation MINIs, the Clubman is a high quality, premium brand car that offers more versatility and space yet retains the classic MINI driving involvement. The styling, though, is awkward from some angles and the Clubdoor means passengers have to enter/exit onto the road.
