Middle lane hoggers face £100 fine

TODAY (16 August 2013), middle lane hoggers can be fined £100.

The new fixed penalty fine can be issued for poor lane discipline and also for tailgating.

The £100 fixed penalty fine for middle lane road hoggers will also include three penalty points for an offender’s driving licence.

More serious cases of careless driving will be taken to court with heavier fines.

At the same time, the penalty for using a hand-held mobile phone while driving increases from £60 to £100.

Julie Townsend, deputy chief executive, Brake, the road safety charity, said: “Driving is the most dangerous thing most of us do on a daily basis, but sadly some drivers remain complacent about the risks and the law. All drivers have a responsibility to ensure they aren’t putting others at risk, and are helping to prevent these needless casualties.”

Business car managers should make sure their company car drivers are aware of the new law for middle lane hoggers.
