The dash architecture follows similar lines to before, but the central circular instrument packs in more information than before. “Keyless-go” is now standard across the Mini Hatch range.
BMW is emphasising the use of MINI Connected services which allow tight integration between drivers’ smartphones and the car, providing access to services such as social media apps like Twitter, or Internet radio.
At the same time, there is the option of a permanently-installed dedicated SIM card for features such as Emergency Call, which triggers automatic assistance in the event of an accident, and Mini Teleservices, which automatically conveys service information between the car and the customer’s choice of MINI workshop.
The three cars in the initial line-up are priced as follows: MINI Cooper Hatch, £15,300; MINI Cooper D Hatch, £16,450; MINI Cooper S Hatch, £18,650
The introduction of the new MINI is supported by investments by BMW worth £750 million in its three big UK manufacturing sites – the bodywork facility at Swindon, the Hams Hall engine plant and the Oxford factory that handles final assembly.
