INFINITI has taken the wraps off the new Infiniti Q60 sports coupe with a flagship twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 pumping out 400hp for a lusty performance through intelligent all-wheel drive.

Making its world debut at the 2016 North American International Auto Show, the new Infiniti Q60 is a premium sports coupe, lower and wider than predecessors, combining expressive design with exhilarating performance and dynamics.

Roland Krueger, president of Infiniti, is full of confidence in his product, saying: “The Infiniti Q60 conveys a powerful elegance through its daring design, and has the performance credentials to match – thanks to next-generation ride and handling technologies and up to 400 horsepower.

“The Q60 will affirm Infiniti’s leadership in the premium sports coupe class.”

The Q60 powertrains

  • Al-new 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine produces 400hp at 6,400 rpm and 475Nm maximum torque at 1,600-5,200rpm. Mated to rear-biased intelligent all-wheel drive. Features all new electronic suspension system.
  • Four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine produces 208hp at 5,500rpm and 350Nm max torque at 1,500rpm. Drives rear wheels

Dynamic enhancements, including the all-new lightweight and sophisticated 400hp 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo engine, together with new adaptive steering and digital suspension system, result in a premium sports coupe designed and engineered to perform.

The new VR30 engine with one of the best power-to-efficiency ratios in the class is mated to a rear-biased intelligent all-wheel drive system that provides enhanced stability and road holding in low grip conditions.

For business users appreciating the high profile presence but with an eye to their tax liabilities, there is also a four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine, turbocharged to produce 208hp, driving the rear wheels for optimal dynamic response and steering feel.

With both engines the Q60’s seven-speed automatic transmission has been engineered with gear ratios spaced to allow for responsive, direct acceleration. Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) uses a lateral acceleration sensor to detect topographical changes in the road, such as hills or corners, and enhances gear selection patterns according to the changing conditions.

Complementing the drivetrain is Infiniti’s new dynamic digital suspension, while the second-generation direct adaptive steering offers high levels of feel and feedback with drive mode selector to personalise the precise levels of response and feel.

The selector has six options: ‘Customise’, ‘Standard’, ‘Snow’, ‘Eco’, ‘Sport’, and – new for certain models – ‘Sport+’.

The world premiere of the new Q60 sports coupe comes at a time of rapid growth for Infiniti, in the midst of an intense global launch period. Infiniti sold a record 215,250 new vehicles in 2015, a year-on-year rise of 16%.

The Q60 will play an important role in the brand’s global growth and re-ignite its presence in the premium sports coupe segment.
