JAGUAR says its new 75 miles per gallon XE model will offer the lowest cost of ownership of any of its premium rivals.

The company says CAP has predicted that over three years or 30,000 miles the car will retain 45 per cent of its value, putting it ahead of two of its main competitors, the BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4.

The new aluminium bodied XE will be available early next year with a choice of both diesel and petrol engines.

JLR says the ultra clean engine means the manual version of the car has lower Vehicle Excise Duty and benefit in kind company car tax than the BMW, the Audi or even the Mercedes C-Class.

At 99g/km the new Jaguar XE diesel will be placed in the 17% company car tax band for 2015/16 – check our company car tax tables for more information.

UK managing director Jeremy Hicks said the new engine would be produced at the company’s new engine plant at Wolverhampton, shortly to go into full production, where one engine every 36 seconds will be made
