Renault claims that it “ushers in a new era of styling, handing and quality”. The new Renault Megane certainly more mature-looking than the current five-door Megane.

The new Megane is said to have best-in-class safety. It shares some safety, comfort and high-tech features with the larger Laguna.

As well as the low-emission diesels, the new Renault Megane will have a 130PS diesel that emits 135g/km.

Petrol engines include a new, 130PS, turbocharged 1.4-litre that’s said to be very fuel-efficient. Badged TCe 130, it arrives in spring 2009.

The new five-door Megane features climate control and MP3 connectivity as standard. The choice of two GPS navigation systems, Bluetooth and seven-inch colour display will be available.

The new five-door is the first of six Megane models due to arrive by 2010. The three-door Renault Megane will follow the five-door and will be a sporty, coupe-like hatch.

Prices for the new five-door Renault Megane have not been announced yet.
The new five-door Megane makes its world debut in October at the Paris motor show.
