What’s more, the middle seat in the second row can be folded flat in to the floor so you can have it set up as a six-seater with easy access to the third row.

Climb in to the cabin yourself and it’s clear that Ford has worked on improving the amount of space inside. The third row of seats are still a bit short on head and legroom for adults but for children they’ll be just the right size.

What’s also immediately obvious is that Ford is moving the S-MAX seriously upmarket.

The seats, steering wheel and instrument binnacle are all finished in  ultra soft leather, while carbon fibre detailing throughout adds a definite touch of class.

“Each and every element of the interior stands up to close inspection with intricate and thoroughly considered design,” said Martin Smith, executive design director at Ford.

It’s packed full of technology, too, including Ford sync with AppLink, which not only provides a wi-fi hotspot but also enables drivers to download apps such as the music streaming service Spotify.
