The all-new Volvo C30 will go on sale at the beginning of 2007.
It is the first time Volvo has a competitor to the Audi A3 and BMW 1-series.
Its pricing suggests it will be very good value compared to the A3 (see comparison).
The C30 is a two-door ‘sports coupe’ with a glass tailgate. It has seating for four.
Prices start from £14,750 for the 1.6-litre with 100PS engine. The choice of engines is wide: five petrol; three diesel.
There are four trim levels: S, SE, SE Sport, and SE Lux.
The driver of a C30 1.6 SE will pay £153 a year less tax than the driver of an A3 1.6 SE (40% tax payer).
How the new C30 compares to the A3
- C30 1.6 SE: £14,562, 167g/km, 40.4mpg, 20% tax band
- A3 1.6 SE: £17,327, 163g/km, 39.8mpg, 19% tax band
- C30 2.0D SE: £19,122, 151g/km, 49.7mpg, 20% tax band
- A3 2.0 140 TDi SE: £19,932, 148g/km, 51.4mpg, 19% tax band
It’s called C30, and it’s a Volvo to rival the A3
