Nissan X-Trail a boost n-tec+ model
New from Nissan: X-Trail range boosted with new high-spec n-tec+ model

Story: DAVID WILKINS

Remember the Nissan X-Trail?

Quite, you might have forgotten it such has been the success of the Qashqai and Juke SUVs.

But the X-Trail offers business users a practical, rugged and good tow-car, and now to add a dash of luxury to the mix, Nissan has slotted a new highly-equipped version of the popular X-Trail into its range.

The n-tec+ fits in between the mid-range Acenta and top Tekna models and boasts a long list of standard equipment. One big attraction – the n-tec+ will cost £ 27,790 but for a limited introductory period, Nissan is selling it at the same price as the Acenta, £25,790. For that, buyers effectively get lots of extra kit for free. There’s also the option of three years of zero per cent interest and a three-year fixed-price servicing deal that costs £399.

  • For a limited period the X-Trail n-tec+ will be sold at a £2000 discount. Get in quick!

Outside there are 18-inch wheels and front fog lamps with chrome finish, as well as side bars with side steps. Inside, the X-Trail n-tec+ has the Nissan Connect system, which features a five-inch sat nav screen and Bluetooth. There are also front, rear and side cameras to aid parking, a sunroof, climate control, cruise control and privacy glass.

The n-tec+ has a 173 PS 2.0-litre diesel engine and a towing weight of 2,200 kg. Nissan hasn’t released separate figures for the n-tec+ but Acenta and Tekna versions of the X-Trail fitted with the same engine achieve 168g/km and 36.2 mpg. Not outstanding then for company car users, so business buyers might be better to run this privately and then charge business mileage back to the company.

The Nissan X-Trail, which is now getting a bit long in the tooth, probably needs a boost in the face of intensifying competition from two of its main rivals in a business car comparison. The Land Rover Freelander has just been revamped with a new interior, while the latest fourth-generation version of Honda’s CR-V  is about to arrive in the UK, boasting a broader appeal than its predecessor with features such as a two-wheel drive option for the first time.
