Porsche Cayenne diesel

Porsche Cayenne 3.0 Tiptronic S Diesel

Porsche Cayenne 3.0 Tiptronic S Diesel with Sports Design Package

What is it?

MOST business-friendly version of Porsche’s monster Cayenne 4×4. Powered by a 3.0-litre 240bhp V6 turbo diesel engine, the Cayenne posts over 30mpg. But CO2 emissions of 244g/km still place the Cayenne in the highest company car tax banding of 35%. Model tested is £39,404 diesel with Sports Design Package.

What’s hot?

  • Engine has effortless torque…
  • …put your foot down and just go, go, go
  • Smooth six-speed tiptronic auto adds to sense of imperious progress
  • It’s also very quiet and un-diesel like under the bonnet
  • Steering surprisingly accurate for such a big car
  • Comfortable and spacious interior
  • Respectable fuel consumption for such a massive car
  • Standard anti-skid and traction control for sure-footed progress
  • Silky six-speed Tiptronic auto
  • Optional Porsche Active Suspension smooths bumps

What’s not?

  • Sports Design Package adds overdose of plastic cladding…
  • …even the twin exhaust pipes get the plastic treatment
  • Interior trim and finish looks cheap
  • Cabin doesn’t feel special enough for a luxury Porsche SUV
  • List of option prices sends price stratospheric
  • It might be a diesel but company car tax high

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

Porsche’s first diesel. And if you want a Porsche SUV then the Cayenne does it well: bucket loads of torque propel the car along with impunity; the auto is relaxing; and the heightened seat position adds to the sense of comfortable well-being. You can travel miles in this car – the Alps perhaps for a spot of skiing? – and step out relaxed, refreshed. But the finish of the cabin is not what you would expect, and the BMW X5 provides a more convincing all-round solution for business car SUVs.
