A STRATEGY to spread premium car safety features throughout its range has paid off for Hyundai with the new Tucson awarded the maximum five-star safety rating from independent vehicle assessment organisation Euro NCAP.
Tucson highlights
- New Tucson among safest in segment with top Euro NCAP rating;
- Technologies include Autonomous Emergency Braking;
- Hyundai Motor is spreading premium safety features across its range.
While only the Lane Keeping Assist System and the Speed Limit Information Function were taken into account by the safety organisation, the new Tucson is now equipped with a host of other safety features to help avoid and minimise the severity of accidents resulting in the Tucson 5-star Euro NCAP .
Among them is the Autonomous Emergency Braking system, which alerts the driver to unexpected emergency situations, braking autonomously if required. Blind Spot Detector, Rear-Cross Traffic Alert and Vehicle Stability Management complete the comprehensive active safety package.
For increased pedestrian safety, Tucson is equipped with an Active Hood System as standard, which raises the vehicle’s bonnet to cushion the impact shock in a frontal pedestrian collision. A new body shell structure now features 30% more advanced high strength steel, increasing the car’s torsional rigidity to offer greater impact resistance. On top of this, enhanced body connections enable better dissipation of collision energy.
Thomas Schmid, chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Europe, said: “The All-New Tucson introduces a wide array of new safety technologies, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, at an accessible price. The five-star rating from Euro NCAP is further evidence that quality and safety are built into our new cars.”
