What is it?

RENAULT’S hatchback answer to the Ford Mondeo. The Renault Laguna was given a mild visual revision at the beginning of 2010, with a slightly more aggressive appearance from the GT on this TomTom model and a cleaner range of engines. Confusing model range also cleaned up. Priced at £21,700.

What’s hot?

  • Pleasant shape aided by sportier re-style
  • Brilliant safety spec – five-start EuroNCAP rating
  • Plus there’s standard anti-skid ESP
  • Three-year/100,000 mile warranty for peace of mind
  • TomTom satnav easy to use
  • High level of standard specification
  • Plus there’s an F1-style flat-bottomed steering wheel
  • Precise steering and accurate handling

What’s not?

  • Hatch boot is long but shallow
  • Rear legroom constricted despite the car’s size
  • Underlying constant suspension patter
  • Level of diesel noise and vibration through steering wheel
  • Long clutch travel

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

The Renault Laguna represents a lot of car for the money; plus it’s hard not to ignore its brilliant five-star safety rating. But there the virtues end – the car has little appeal for the business car market. Go for a Mondeo instead – the Ford makes a more satisfying and complete alternative.
