SEAT Exeo ST 2.0 TDi CR 143PS SE road test report

SEAT Exeo ST 2.0 TDi CR 143PS SE

What is it?

ESTATE car version of SEAT’s business car Exeo saloon called Exeo ST (for Sports Tourer, by the way). Essentially, the Exeo ST is a re-worked version of the previous generation Audi A4 Avant. But it’s not a bad place to start. SEAT has revised the suspension, ride, styling and fitments to provide a highly luxurious alternative estate for your money. Model tested is the £20,945 SE Exeo ST with 2.0-litre diesel engine.

What’s hot?

  • Gutsy diesel engine provides plenty of low-down pull
  • And there’s good economy, too, at 53.3mpg
  • Company car tax banding is 19% rising to 20% in 2011/12
  • SEAT engineers have done remarkable things with donor car’s steering…
  • …it’s very precise and communicative
  • Plus the handling is highly engaging
  • The ride remains sportily firm but compliant over large bumps
  • Boot offers 564 litres extending to 882 litres when rear seats folded
  • Standard kit is generous: Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity…
  • …plus dual zone climate control, 17 inch alloy wheels, roof rails
  • Well-finished interior, including boot lining

What’s not?

  • Some engine vibration through steering wheel
  • Cramped on legroom for rear passengers
  • It’s old tech

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

If you want cut-price Audi premium, then this is a good place to start. OK, so it’s updated old technology, but the Exeo ST is well built, nicely finished and offers extremely good value – SEAT usually has good contract hire offers for under £270. That’s less than you’ll pay per month for a diesel Golf hatchback.
