What is it?

Replacement for Skoda’s most popular UK car to date.

The new Skoda Fabia brings more distinctive looks, space and standard equipment. Still uses VW platforms.

One, Two and Three trims available. Range kicks off with the 1.2 petrol, topping out with the 1.9TDi.

What’s hot?

  • The price – at some £8500 it’s a bargain
  • Roomster nose looks good and overall styling is classy
  • Real big car feel inside -loads of room and solid build quality throughout
  • Rides very well with composed handling too
  • Little three-cylinder engine sounds great
  • Boot has a useful 300 litres of space
  • Frugal and very, very cheap to run
  • Standard kit includes reach and rake adjust steering

    What’s not?

  • Steering lacks feel so not exactly exciting to drive…
  • …or particularly rapid either
  • Air conditioning isn’t standard on One

Verdict

Without a doubt the best small car on the road today. Driving experience lacks some verve but in every other way, the entry-level Skoda Fabia is brilliant. It’ll never go wrong, cost pennies to run and low (ish) supply levels will mean decent residuals.
