MINI is launching a performance diesel.

The MINI Cooper D will go on sale from April.

It will be the most economical MINI to date: 64.2mpg. But it will also zip to 60mph in under 10secs.

It will also be low on company car tax.

It has emissions of 118g/km. For tax year 2007/08 it will sit in the 18% tax band.

But for the 2008/09 tax year it drops into the new low emissions tax band when its rating will be just 13%.

The Cooper D will also be joined by a new version of the MINI One.

The One uses a new 1.4-litre engine that’s almost capable of 50mpg, the official figure is 49.6mpg.
