Ford Ka Zetec Grand Prix

Ford Ka 1.2 Zetec Grand Prix

What is it?

ONE OF the personalised editions of Ford’s city car, the Grand Prix provides sporty looks thanks to special paintwork (£500) and interior trim (£300) that includes coloured leather steering wheel, air vents and seat trim. Otherwise it’s the same 69PS 1.2-litre engine you’ll find in the Ka Zetec, along with the looks of a shrunk-in-the-wash Ford Fiesta. Also available as 75PS 1.3-litre diesel.

What’s hot?

  • Cheeky looks with more get me noticed Grand Prix styling
  • Small engine is fine around town…
  • …and spins up to speed on the open road
  • And will give you fuel economy of over 55mpg
  • Easy manoeuvrability around town
  • Jittery town ride smooths out on open road
  • Low company car tax

What’s not?

  • Steering overlight and lifeless
  • Interior feels plasticky
  • Salmon red colour scheme not to all tastes
  • Lacks character of original Ka

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

Somehow the latest Ka is a big disappointment. It’s not as fun-loving or as engaging to drive as the original and feels characterless, despite going through the paces with its Grand Prix styling. Nevertheless, the Ford Ka will be cheap to run and easy to drive around town, but the Ford Fiesta is where all the Ford fun has gone.
