Sporty new look for Hyundai’s Focus price beater

HYUNDAI’S i30 hatchback

HYUNDAI’S i30 hatchback – a good value business car rival to the Ford Focus – gets an uprated look in a new special Edition model.

The Hyundai i30 Edition range gets an exclusive new sporty appearance: there’s a modified front grille; hexagonal air intake and sculpted fog lamps; side skirts; and a new rear bumper incorporating twin exhaust trims.

Priced from £13,400 on-the-road from January, the i30 Edition is over £4,000 cheaper than an entry-level Ford Focus, says Hyundai.

Despite the lower price point, the i30 Edition has a high standard equipment list. As well as the exterior enhancements, there’s 16-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, sports pedals, a chrome-finished gearknob, electric windows all round, remote central locking, electric heated door mirrors and a six-speaker stereo-radio CD player with Aux and USB connections and steering wheel audio controls.

Anti-skid ESP is also standard, along with active front head restraints and six airbags.

Engine choices are 1.4 or 1.6-litre petrol, or a 1.6-litre CRDi diesel, with CO2 emissions below 119g/km – qualifying for a 13% company car tax band rating. A stop-start system is available as a £200 option on all models. This lowers emissions and improves fuel consumption further.

In addition the i10 city and i20 supermini also gain special Edition models.

All Edition models come with Hyundai’s five-year warranty back up.
