A SPORTY Volkswagen Tiguan heads up the unveiling of four new models of the medium-sized SUV at this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

The production versions include the Tiguan R-Line, the classic on-road model and a version tuned specifically for off-road use.

New Tiguan highlights

  • Four new Tiguan models launched at Frankfurt;
  • Sports enhanced Tiguan R-Line leads the bunch;
  • Plug-in hybrid concept claims 218PS;
  • Engine choices range in power from 115PS to 240PS;
  • All engines claim 24% improvement in efficiency;
  • Towing capability of 2.5 tonnes

Meanwhile, the Tiguan GTE, a concept vehicle with a plug-in hybrid drive boasting 218PS of combined electric and combustion power, offers an outlook on the future development of VW’s best-selling SUV.

The body proportions of the latest Tiguan are perceptibly sporty and weight was also reduced by more than 50kg compared to the previous model.

The boot volume has increased by 145 litres and the car can take on up to 615 litres of cargo, swelling to 1,655 litres with rear seats folded.

A broad range of eight engines is available with power outputs ranging between 115PS and 240PS. The drives were made more powerful, yet they are up to 24% more fuel-efficient than those of the previous model.

A new 4MOTION Active Control also lets drivers adjust the all-wheel drive system more individually and easier to all possible driving conditions and the Tiguan has been engineered for trailer loads of up to 2,500kg.

The assistance systems perfect the vehicle’s convenience, dynamism and safety  – including Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, Lane Assist and the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, all as standard.

Its internet connectivity suite delivers automatic accident notification, online traffic and parking space info, vehicle status report and the on-board electronics will integrate all of today’s smartphones of the Apple and Android worlds into the functionality of the infotainment systems via App Connect.
