Inside, however, there’s a new interface to highlight the relationship between the driver and technology.
Safety systems include a Tiredness Recognition System spotting diminishing driver concentration on the basis of steering characteristics and sounding alerts. There’s also Multi-Collision Brake which, after a serious impact, automatically slows down the vehicle to dissipate the remaining kinetic energy. If the airbag is activated by the initial collision, the electronic stability programme applies the brakes and switches on the hazard lights.
New engine choices include:
- A 1.0-litre three-cylinder producing 75PS fuel economy of 68.9 mpg and 94g/km of C02 and Eco TSI turbocharged engines delivering 95PS or 110PS with maximum torque of 160 or 200Nm;
- A four-cylinder 1.4 Eco TSI with active cylinder management (ACT) an output of 150PS and torque of 250Nm guarantee a high level of dynamic driving fun, while claiming a combined fuel consumption of 58.9 mpg.
- A three-cylinder diesel 1.4 TDI with 75PS claims fuel consumption of 83.1 mpg and just 88g/km of C02.
- Two other TDI motors, with 90PS or 105PS, each claim at least 74.3 mpg.
- Luggage space offers 430 litres swelling to up to 1,164 litres with the rear seats folded down.
